McDonald Engineers UK has upstaged the competition by manufacturing two copper Calorifiers for ‘The Queens Theatre’ in London with a U-Tube battery and bespoke finish as specified by the client.
The two 550 litre Calorifiers required for the prestigious theatre, which has played host to Les Misérables since 2004, were powered via a 120kW U-Tube Battery complete with lifting ring to allow the heating element to be easily removed for maintenance or indeed replaced.
The calorifiers also featured temperature and pressure gauges to provide accurate information, 350mm manhole inspection covers for easy access and maintenance as well as a de-stratification pump to prevent stagnant water and minimise the threat of bacteria such as legionella.
A key, and rather unusual, requirement of the brief was to ensure the connections had a clearance of exactly 25mm from the finished insulation. This was designed to assist with the installation process and minimise any unnecessary amendments to pipework on site.
McDonald Engineers’ Sales Director, Jamie Stewart, explained, “Whilst the majority of our cylinders feature copper coil arrangements to transfer the heat, many clients like the peace of mind offered with U-Tube Batteries which can be removed quickly and easily.”
He continued, “But as with every enquiry, we will discuss the client’s requirements in terms of capacity, incoming pressure, recovery times required and fuel sources being used to advise on the optimum cylinder design and specification. On this occasion, the preferred solution was the battery unit.”
