McDonald Engineers delivers POWERflow cylinders for HM Prison Durham

Sunday, 23 June 2013

McDonald Engineers has reinforced its position as one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of commercial hot water cylinders with the delivery of two 500 litre POWERflow unvented cylinders for HM Prison Durham.

The bespoke cylinder was designed to include a removable battery to enable any maintenance to be carried out quickly and efficiently.

To minimise the installation time on site, the cylinder was shipped to the installer who assembled all of the components off site before bringing the complete unit into the prison on a skid plate.

The project required McDonald Engineers to manufacture the cylinder to meet the strict guidelines which govern the supply of products into the prison service. Part of these specifications stipulates the use of copper for hot water cylinders due to its superior bacteria killing properties.

McDonald Sales Director, Jamie Stewart, explained “The enormous health benefits associated with copper have been well documented and the majority of hot water cylinders in the public sector and the prison service are now specified as copper.”

He continued, “As the cylinder was being installed in a Category B prison, it was vital the product could demonstrate a track record for being reliable and durable to minimise downtime and maintenance issues. Our POWERflow has a fantastic reputation for maintaining superb levels of performance which makes it the perfect solution for these types of environments.”
