Electric Thermal Store for Prestigious School

McDonald Engineers UK has designed, manufactured and supplied a 400 litre THERMflow Electric Thermal Store for a field retreat facility in the Scottish Highlands which is owned by George Heriot's School in Edinburgh.

As the facility was in a remote location in the Highlands and not being used on a regular basis, the electric thermal store was seen as the perfect solution as it required virtually zero maintenance and could be switched on or off as required.

1000 Litre Calorifier Manufactured and Delivered in Under 1 Week

McDonald Engineers UK has enabled the refurbishment works for a High School to remain on track by fast tracking the manufacture of a bespoke 1000 litre calorifier which it delivered in under 1 week from the order being placed.

The McDonald Engineers team reacted to an emergency call from the contractor on site which had forgotten to place the order for the calorifier and needed to be in within the week to enable the work schedule to remain on track for re-opening after the school holidays.

Slimline Rectangular Thermal Store Fits The Space

McDonald Engineers UK has designed, manufactured and supplied a slimline rectangular thermal store which measured just 340mm in width, including insulation, and delivered a capacity of 185 litres for a refurbishment project in London.

The slimline hot water solution was required to replace an existing thermal store cylindrical tank which had been installed prior to the cupboard and soil stack being installed.  As a result, the new hot water storage solution had to fit within a space of just 350mm wide by 600mm deep and up to 2200mm in height.

25 Litre Rectangular Hot Water Tank Manufactured For Replacement Contract

McDonald Engineers UK has designed, manufactured and supplied these 25 litre rectangular hot water tanks to replace existing Elson Pearl units which was a wall mounted unit for a refurbishment in Humberside.

The highly efficient solution is perfect for reducing running costs in multi-point applications such as in schools, offices, portable buildings and cloakrooms which require a smaller capacity and do not want a mains pressure under-sink unit with its annual servicing requirements.

New Research Shows Significant Annual Cost Savings from Copper vs Stainless Steel Cylinders

Following on from the research carried out by Ulster University which demonstrated the major performance benefits of copper over stainless steel, McDonald Engineers UK has conducted a new project in order to take the results one step further and show the true impact on annual running costs.

The research compared three types of 210 litre unvented cylinders and was aimed at finding out heat up times and the corresponding amount of gas used by the boiler to achieve them.

Bespoke Hot Water Solution for Major Biscuit Manufacturer

McDonald Engineers UK has demonstrated their expertise in bespoke hot water solutions by designing and manufacturing a 7-berth tank on tank solution for one of Scotland’s biggest biscuit manufacturers.

The client was looking for a solution which would provide individual hot water circuits to five manufacturing lines in their facility allowing them to have a great control over the quality of chocolate on each line.

Bespoke 700 litre Calorifiers for Carrick Castle

McDonald Engineers UK has manufactured two 700 litre calorifers for the refurbishment of the 15th century castle on the shores of Loch Goil.  

Manufactured from premium grade copper, the calorifiers were designed and manufactured to maximise the heat transfer process from the air source heat pumps on site.

Copper’s thermal conductivity is almost 30 times greater than stainless steel which means it transfers more of the heat generated by the heat pumps in a shorter space of time – a key factor in the renewable energy market.

Bespoke Hot Water Solution for Care Home

McDonald Engineers UK has designed, manufactured and supplied a bespoke hot water solution for a new 60-bed care home to feature their PLATEflow system, comprising of an 1860 litre copper buffer vessel with plate heat exchanger.

After discussing the project with the onsite Mechanical Engineer, the PLATEflow system was specified as the most efficient solution thanks to its ability to provide the core hot water demand via the plate heat exchanger and only calling on the stored hot water during periods of peak demand.

McDonald Engineers UK have demonstrated their expertise in designing and manufacturing highly efficient and cost effective hot water solutions for schools by securing the contract to manufacture two 1500 litre copper calorifiers for the new £18.2 million Faith Schools complex in Newton Mearns.
